For the second year in a row, we headed back to Schiers to check in on the green saplings we planted last year. Back then, we placed climate-resilient young trees on the steep slopes and fenced them off from hungry wildlife.
The big question on our minds: How have our little ones grown? Equipped with our in-house workwear, sturdy boots, and heavy-duty gloves, we set off to find out…
Pure Nature:
A Day in the Grisons.
The sun was already shining when we left Zurich – and it stayed with us all day long. Fueled by motivation, we made our way into the impressive Grisons mountains to visit the forestry project promoting biodiversity.
In Schiers, forest ranger Florian Ritter welcomed us warmly and guided us to our work site above the town.
Besides planting saplings, forest care was also part of the day’s agenda.
What looked easy for the pros turned out to be a real workout for us.
Even more reason to enjoy a joint barbecue at noon by the campfire we built ourselves. Recharged, we got back to work in the afternoon, planted the final tree, and secured it with a two-metre-high wire fence.
It was a truly rewarding experience – from digging the holes to cutting the wire and hammering in the stakes. Tired but happy, we finally made our way back down into the valley, and one question kept coming up:
«When do we go again?»
